Dancing in the Rain—and Finding Beauty in the Unexpected

Dancing in the Rain—and Finding Beauty in the Unexpected

In my last post, I shared how I’ve been getting back to basics. This past weekend, that’s exactly what I did.

My husband and I went tent camping in the White Mountains. The first night, it poured rain. We fell asleep cold but cozy, praying our tent wouldn’t leak.

Going home was never an option. We didn’t even discuss it. We’d committed to camping, rain or shine—and we were determined to make the best of it.

Life is a lot like that.

Sometimes we find ourselves in circumstances we’d never choose—what my mentor Cy Wakeman calls “unpreferred reality.”

In those moments, I ask myself:

  • How can I dance in the rain?

  • What can I be grateful for, even here?

  • What beauty might I discover if I keep my eyes open?

Rain has a way of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. The morning after our storm, the sun came up and turned every drop of water into diamonds scattered across the grass.

That’s the power of perspective.

We can’t always control the storm—but we can choose gratitude, look for hidden beauty, and trust that God is working even in the downpour.
