Podcast Episode 4: The First Step is the Hardest – Why Trusting God Feels Scary, but Worth It! | Show Notes

In this episode of the Faithfully Empowered Podcast, we’re talking about something every faith-driven woman faces at some point: that scary, wobbly moment of taking the first step when God calls you into something new.

Whether it’s launching a business, sharing your story, changing careers, or simply choosing to speak up — it’s normal to wonder:

  • What if I fail?
  • What if I heard God wrong?
  • What if I embarrass myself?

Friend, you’re not alone. And today, I’m here to remind you that you’re not stepping out empty-handed.

Why Stepping Out Feels So Hard

Leaving what’s familiar—even if it’s not great—can feel safer than stepping into the unknown. But Jesus never promised us comfort. He promised His presence.

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33

We don’t take brave steps because we have it all figured out. We take them because we trust the One who does.

You’re Not Empty-Handed

God equips those He calls.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” — 1 Peter 4:10

Your creativity, skills, and passions are intentional tools for your purpose. Creativity isn’t just for artists—it’s for anyone who thinks differently, solves problems, or brings beauty into everyday life.

If God is calling you forward, it’s because He’s already gone ahead of you.

“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24

My Own First Step Story (And Some Mud)

I shared a story in the episode about my own first step—deciding to try camping for the first time. I grew up a “beach girl,” not a wilderness woman. But living in New Hampshire, my husband convinced me to give camping a shot.

Everything went wrong that first trip. Bugs, rain, mud — you name it. And yet, in the chaos, I found the quiet presence of God.

Out there in the White Mountains, surrounded by still waters and pine trees, I experienced:

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” — Psalm 23

Camping—and later kayaking—became places where God reminded me that He sees me, that He has plans for me, and that the little holy moments in nature aren’t just for comfort—they’re confirmation that He’s still calling me forward.

A Word of Wisdom: Stay on the Path

One hiking mishap taught me a deeper lesson. Trying to find a shortcut off a muddy trail landed us on an old road that didn’t exist anymore.

Don’t skip the path God laid out for you. It might be messy, but it’s marked—and He’s already walked it.

Takeaway for You

Maybe today you’re standing at the edge of something new. And maybe it feels terrifying.

Fear is normal. But it doesn’t get to make your decisions.

You don’t need all the answers to say yes. You don’t need the whole map to take the first step. You just need to trust the One who walks beside you.

“God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.” — Romans 11:29

Questions to Reflect On:

  • What first step is God asking you to take right now?
  • Where might fear be holding you back?
  • How can you remind yourself that you’re not stepping out empty-handed?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop a comment, share your story, or send me a message. And if today’s episode encouraged you, pass it on to a friend who might need a nudge toward courage.

Until next time—stay courageous, stay expectant, and stay faithfully empowered.
